CHESS Lab is looking for motivated Postdoc applicants in the area of Human-Centred Security. At ChessLab, we conduct Human-Centred Security research, deploying methods such as interviews, surveys, diary studies, and field observations. We also collect and crawl large-scale (online) datasets and run statistical analysis.
The Postdoc will work on one or more of these projects, either those we have already developed or their own projects. They will also take over leadership responsibility for mentoring PhD Students and Student Assistants, as well as overseeing master's and bachelor's theses.
We are a highly integrated team that works closely together, also with other teams at CISPA. Hence, we are looking for an individual who fits our spirit and enjoys integrating into this vibrant work environment.
"In our team, we address cybersecurity challenges that organizations and humans face. We want to understand how theoretical and academic cybersecurity ideas are implemented in organizations' practice. We are also interested in understanding the economic incentives behind security decisions and general principles of Human-Centred Security and Usable Security. We go into organizations, engage with decision-makers and users, and test interventions to improve organizations' cyberresilience. In our studies, we combine methods like interviews, diary studies, questionnaires, field observations, qualitative coding, web crawling, data analysis with LLM, statistical tests, and prototype coding. Additionally, we research the security and usability of industrial control systems (the controllers, network, and interfaces used to manage processes in plants and factories). Currently, we are setting up a lab for usable security studies into industrial control systems. "

What We Expect:
- For this position you must hold a doctorate in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Psychology, Electrical Engineering, or related (or close to completion of the PhD).
- Interest in leading own research projects and team members.
- Experience in either Human-Centred Security, Usable Security and/or large scale data crawling and analysis.
- Graduated from a top university. Research experience showcased by publication record.
- You are proficient in spoken and written English
